The Breeder is pleased to present an off site solo exhibition by Alexandros Vasmoulakis titled Mind Mischief.

Exploring abstraction, potential and felix culpa Alexandros Vasmoulakis brings the figure into the spotlight. He constantly illustrates an ambiguous boundary between the tangible and the non-tangible, figure and non-figure, fiction and reality. He draws his viewers into a world of paradoxes and uncertainties, as opposed to binary truths.

Vasmoulakis beams countless layers of imagery onto the canvas, ultimately becoming a narrative in its own right. While adopting elements of Cubism and Abstract Expressionism, accompanied by cartoon-like adaptations, he creates through destruction. In fact, destruction is a prerequisite through which Vasmoulakis' occupation with ideas of fragility unfold: actual pieces of previous paintings are cut, pasted and appropriated onto works of the present; resembling highly textured contemporary palimpsests.

"It is not about planning things really. It is about letting things happen, which encourages a world of imagination, transformation, and abstraction." By offering his playful and indirect response to the complex world of human perception, Vasmoulakis suggests that curiosity equals nothing but sheer disobedience.

Alexandros Vasmoulakis (b. 1980) studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and the VSUP Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. He has presented his work in solo exhibitions in Athens, Los Angeles and London and has been included in group exhibitions worldwide (i.e. No Country for Young Men, Bozar, Brussels; Like New!, Benaki Museum Athens; International Mural Exhibition, Shenzhen, China; ARENA Center of Contemporary Art Torun, Poland). His work has been featured in selected publications (Thames & Hudston, TASCHEN, GESTALTEN among others). For over a decade he completed large-scale mural commissions in various locations, including Berlin, Shenzhen, Tel Aviv, Athens, Portsmouth, Ljubljana, Stavanger, Zaragoza.
