Georgios Galanis was born in
1987 in Partas, Greece. From a very young age he expressed his interest about
music. That was the reason that soon after he attended the musical high school,
from where he graduated in the year 2005. Parallely he studied violin and
harmony at Patras conservatory. In the age of 18, he enters the Athens state
University and the Athens conservatory, where he studies Musicology and Violin
and counterpoint respectively. 2 years later he receives his degree in violin
with honours. First violin in Athens Youth Symphony Orchestra (AYSO), lieder of
the second violins in Greek-Turkish youth orchestra and first violin in the
chamber orchestra of Athens university, are just some of his activities in the
field of music while still a student. In the age of 20 he conducts for the
first time the orchestra of Athens University, thus getting favorable critics.
In the year 2010 and right after his graduation, he attended master classes of
orchestral conducting in Berlin under the instruction of “Fred Buttkewitz”. In
october 2011 Galanis was accepted for the bachelor’s program at the conducting
class of Prague music academy. In april 2013 he made his Czech debut,
conducting the Pardubice chamber philharmonic as its guest conductor. In
september 2013, he attended masterclass with Athens symphony orchestra under
the instruction of maestro Mihalis Economou and was voted as the orchestra’s
favourite among 40 young talented musicians, thus conducting also the
seminary’s closing concert. For the next season Galanis is engaged to prepare a
contemporary opera at the theatre of Liberec in north Czech republic, the
premier of which will be on 19. December 2014. Currently, Georgios Galanis is
studying orchestral conducting at the academy of performing arts in Prague with
professors Tomas Koutnik and Hynek Farkac.
